I came home without warning and found my daughter alone in the ICU, fighting for her life. While she lay there, my husband was on a luxury yacht with another woman, completely unaware of what was happening.

The metallic click of the mechanical ventilator was the only sound piercing the deathly silence of the Pediatric ICU at the hospital.
In front of me, the tiny hand of my twelve-year-old daughter, Chloe, lay lifeless beneath the harsh, cold fluorescent lights, trapped in a labyrinth of IV lines.
The second sight ripped my soul to shreds: the leather armchair beside her bed was completely empty.
“She suffered a fulminant anaphylactic shock; her airways closed off entirely,” the attending physician explained, his face grim. “Two more minutes and we wouldn’t have been able to save her. We tried locating your husband eleven consecutive times, but there was no response.”
I gripped the stainless-steel bed rail until my knuckles turned white. “Who brought her in? Where is my husband?”
“Her nanny. She arrived with the girl in her arms in a taxi.”
